If I mentioned that I like Sony TV sets, you might say, "Yeah, I like the Trinitron, too". Sony branded Trinitron as the top-quality TV set back in the late 80's and it has been a powerhouse ever since.
Now, with technology changed more rapidly than ever and flat-panel TV's growing at over 55% per year, Sony needed a way to re-brand itself. Already dominant in the high-end professional LCD monitor line with their LUMA Series, Sony made a major move when they announced the new consumer-oriented BRAVIA line.
From this point forward, Sony high-definition flat-panel LCD TVs in North America will carry the BRAVIA logo. The first models to carry this new sub-brand will be five LCD TVs ranging in screen sizes from 26- to 40-inches.
BRAVIA, short for "Best Resolution Audio Video Integrated Architecture," is affixed to Sony's latest LCD flat-panel product line, including soon to be announced models.
Sony hopes BRAVIA will be for LCD TV's what Trinitron has meant for their CRT (tube) TV line. It's smart of Sony to re-invent themselves in this exploding market. My own question is: what took them this long?
